The field for The 74th running of The Acorn Stakes drew many fine three-year-old fillies including Victory USA, Society Selection and La Reina. Island Sand, who had finished second in The Kentucky Oaks in her last start, went wide in the stretch and drew away to a two length victory. It was the first Grade One win for the filly, trainer Larry Jones, and Jockey Terry Thompson. It was also the first ever mount for jockey Terry Thompson at Belmont Park.
