The pre-race publicity saw this one as a two horse race. Beautiful Pleasure was looking to redeem herself after a loss to Riboletta in the Grade I Beldame held at New York's Belmont Park. Riboletta looked unbeatable with six graded stakes wins in a row. Riboletta went off at the lowest odds in the history of the Cup. |

When the smoke cleared long shot Spain was coming over the line first. Riboletta strained a suspensory ligament in her left front leg during the race. Trainer Eduardo Inda announced that the great mare will be retired. It's hard to imagine that she won't get the Eclipse Award for Older Fillies this year. |
