Favorite War Chant, ridden by Gary Stevens came flying in the last 200 yards to edge long shot Northeast Bound by a neck. War Chant had run in The Kentucky Derby in the spring and had recently returned to the track. The mile provided one of the most exciting finishes of the day. |

After the race Stevens remarked "I'm in shock just being here today. This one of the best days of my life." Breeder-owner Irv Cowan said that War Chant will run "next year, probably longer. The win gave trainer Neil Drysdale the best win percentages among Breeders' Cup Trainers |
