The John R. Macomber Stakes
Although he got off a bit slow and wasn't able to
control the pace, Jini's Jet was able to grab the lead mid-stretch and
cruise to a three length victory in the first Mass Breeders' race of the
fall season. Jini's Jet, who recently received the NETWA award for top
Mass Bred, showed the award was no fluke by posting his fifth Mass Bred
Breeders' race since last December. Joe Hampshire replaced the injured Dyn
Panell.

Big Miss
After the Macomber Stakes the skies grew even darker and the rain a
little heavier, but not enough to bother Big Miss, who notched her first
victory since winning The First Episode in April, beating a good open allowance
field. Big Miss is owned by Gal Sal Stable, trained by Donald Caroli,
and was ridden to victory by Wilfredo Lozano Jr.

Jill's Layup
After his star two-year-old filly had made her visit
to the winner's circle following her easy victory in The
Mom's Command Stakes eighty-three year old conditioner Edward Stone
fielded a few questions from the media. Ed was eager to heap praise on
others who had helped get the fine Mass Bred filly to the winner's
circle. Among those who he heaped praise on were Donald Kielty who broke
the filly at his Florida farm and exercise rider Karla Welsh.

Ed also spoke with pride about having run Jill's Notebook, the
winner's dam. Jill's Layup is her second foal, the first being Jill's
Jumpshot, who also raced in New England. Due to problems related to MRLS
Ed reveled that he had sold the mare. Jill's Layup appears to be the
best filly yet from Mass. Sire Senior Conquistador. With such an easy
win in open company she will be a strong factor in State-Bred races this
fall.

Eleanora Sears Stakes
What a race this turned into! Big Miss, Sunlit Ridge
and three-year-old African Princess. All this talent and the race was
almost won by Lori Lockhart's Conlua. When the gates flew open for
this sprint Conlua sprinted to a four length lead. She gave up the lead
grudgingly in the final strides to Gal Sal Stable's Big Miss. It was the
second straight win for Big Miss at The Downs this fall.

The Amelia Peabody
Wagering on races at Suffolk Downs totaled $1,212,811 today. Of
that total amount, $430,260 was wagered on Jill's Layup to show. Bettors
were so sure of Jill's ability that a minus show pool of $118,286 was
created. Jill's Layup did not disappoint! After stalking the early pace
set by Glory Be Good the heavy favorite drew clear in late stretch to
post a one and a quarter length victory. Ed Stone's homebred now has
four career wins in five starts , including two stakes wins.

The John Kirby Stakes
Jini's Jet continued his domination in Mass Bred races
and ran his lifetime earnings to over $200,000 with a convincing seven
length victory. The Jet is now has 13 wins in 25 starts and combined
with 5 seconds and a third has been in the money an amazing 76%. Look
out!! Jini has a two-year-old full sister who will soon make her
presence known.

Glory Be Good
After second place finishes to Mr.Meso in The Norman Hall and Jill's
Layup in The Amilia Peabody Glory Be Good entered the Suffolk Downs
winner's circle following a hard fought head win over Jade Palace. The
Michelle Nydam owned and trained filly looks to be a good one.
