A nice field of fillies entered the starting gate for
this one mile handicap on the turf. Pommes Frites was a neck away from
having a perfect record this year, losing only once to Gorella in The
Just A Game on Belmont Day. Also starting were Bright Abundance and
the three-year-old French filly Mauralakana. Pommes Frites went for the
early lead, as usual, but could not hold off the late charge of Karen's
Caper and Edgar Prado. Karen's Caper, whose last start was a game second
in The Ballston Spa was making only her
third start of the year. The four-year-old War Chant filly appears to be
on track for a start in The Breeders' Cup.
